Antonio Solero has an atypical sporting curriculum. His closeness to sport comes from mountain traditions(he was born in Sappada in the heart of the Dolomites). He started skiing and climbing as a youngster, and in short space of time became a strong climber adopting diverse news ways to this activity, whilst in the winter season he concentrated on skiing and dedicated himself to being a ski instructor.
In 1970 he participated in an experiment of underwater life named “Atlantide” in the lake of Cavazzo in Friuli, where as the first Italian he spent 30 days living in the underwater habitat. In that same winter season taught at the Media school in his hoe town. In 1976 he decided to change his life, and with a self constructed boat of 5.90m, he set sail from Imperia to reach Venezuela, where in the winter of 1977/1978 he re-departed in a solitary voyage across the ocean to return to Imperia.
This return winter crossing of the ocean along a northerly route fro west to east had until that point never been achieved in such a small boat.
In 1979 he was the first Italian ever to participate in the “Mini Transat” his boat “Blu Chiquita” coming ninth out of the 34 boats who took part.”
In 1982 he was placed second out of 97 participants in the first edition of the “Transit de Alizee” where in 1984 went on to win the event, beating the other 151 competitors.
In the Portofino - Brooklyn Cup the “his/hers” ocean regatta he came second and was awarded “first in class” with his command of the “Europe Assistance”.
In 1995 he was once again on the ocean, at the helm of his boat “Life” taking in an itinerary that sailed from Venice, on to the Caribbean, The Bahamas and the American East Coast and finally arriving in Quebec Canada.
He returns to Italy in 1996 again aboard his boat “Life” and from then on has continued his profession chartering his yacht.
E has a profound knowledge of the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and Istanbul, as well as the Caribbean and the Atlantic.
He has 13 ocean crossings to his name of witch 3 achieved single handedly
